The Declaration came out of a consultative process involving partnership practitioners worldwide. A survey was sent out to three hundred practitioners who are either alumni of one of two courses - the Partnership Brokers Accreditation Scheme or the Postgraduate Certificate in Cross-sector Partnerships - or are otherwise connected with The Partnering Initiative. The survey results were analysed to create a raw document which was developed and refined by the 130 participants of The Partnering Event in Cambridge, UK before being launched at a Gala Dinner during the Event.
The Declaration is a challenge to donors, policy makers and sector leaders to help make the most effective enabling environment to allow partnerships for sustainable development to flourish. To date, there has been a great deal of rhetoric about partnerships as a 'solution' to sustainable development. The Partnership Declaration aims to be a brief 'reality check', documenting the difficulties and requirements of partnerships and to provide genuine bottom-up input into discussions of policy and future plans.
The aim is for the Declaration to reach as many people as possible - those in positions of influence operating on a national or international level and on-the-ground partnership practitioners. You can easily send on the Declaration by going to the Send it On section of this site. We would also like your comments on the Declaration, to develop and enrich it based on your experiences both at the policy level and on-the-ground.
